In the Community: Robert Kuhlmann's Volunteer Day

resize-1On Saturday, June 9th, our own Robert Kuhlmann volunteered at the Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games (SOSCSG) held at CSU Long Beach -- the regional precursor to the Special Olympics USA games.

Picture7Robert welcomed visitors, fans, athletes, family members and coaches in the main Information Booth.  He also answered many questions about the Summer Games and Special Olympics, provided directions, and distributed maps and programs.  One member of our Info Booth team even helped a visitor find her car!  The team met several members of the SOSC Athlete Leadership Program, including SOSC Global Messenger Eddie Mack.  They waved and shouted encouragement to the athletes as they headed to their events.  Eddie shared many stories about his life and the Special Olympics – he has been participating in Special Olympics since 1988!

One thing that will stick with Robert is the memory of the many families who approached the booth with their young kids asking where different sports were being played, like basketball or track. When he offered to check the schedule for a particular team, often the answer was no, they were just there to support all of the athletes.  Like us, they were eager and happy just to be part of it…
