My Name is Darryl A. Strayhorn II, I’m originally from Pittsburgh PA (Yes I’m a fan of the 6x Superbowl champions Pittsburgh Steelers).
My mother is from Philadelphia PA, and my father is from Pittsburgh Pa. They meet at Penn State. (I am not a Nittany Lions fan). I moved to California with my mother at the age of 5. I would spend the summer months is Pittsburgh with my Father and the winter months with my mother in Los Angles. The majority of my life has been spent in California, so I do consider myself a pacific coaster.
People for back east can tell that I’m not originally from out here (my east coast swag does poke its head in the way that I dress #sharp) I’m a big-time Los Angeles Lakers fan (Kobe is the real king of L.A) and am happy for the recent acquisition of LeBron James. I am a big time fan of combat sports as well (Boxing and MMA)! I’m a real comic book nerd, I have over 1k comic books and have attended comic con, and yes I participate in cosplay(afro samurai is my go-to costume).
My first job was at Walmart in the city of Upland! I unloaded trucks and pulled palates. I hated that job, but am very thankful that I had that experience. Unloading trucks taught me the true meaning of a hard day’s work. Walmart also taught me another lesson! That lesson is the importance of education! After Walmart I decided to go to ITT Technical Institute were I earned my A.S in information technology. I worked as a tech for Dlink and TEKsystems for several years. Around 2008 the country experienced an economic downslide and a lot of technical jobs were relocated overseas. Luckily for me I had several year’s experience working on the phones from my days as a tech. This lead me to my first position as an account executive for student loan company. I consider the unexpected career change to be a blessing in disguise! As an account executive I get a fulfillment like no other position I have held in the past!
In my journey with New Horizons Computer Learning Group, I have the ability to really help guide the careers of my fellow Angelenos, by providing my clients with the best path for their educational needs. This in itself brings me joy. In the next 2-5 years, I would like to have assisted in 5k students getting the education they need to secure their dreams!
