How a CCP-M Certification Can Set You Apart in the IT Workforce

Citrix has long been a pioneer in enterprise mobility management, primarily through its widely used XenMobile platform. IT research firm Gartner has recently ranked XenMobile as a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Mobility Management, indicating Citrix's dominant current position in helping IT organizations oversee the growing number of smartphones, tablets and other endpoints across their businesses.

The company's own Mobile Analytics Report from 2015 revealed several striking trends in enterprise mobility:

  • Global device enrollment – primarily of hardware running the Apple iOS, Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone operating systems – jumped 72 percent from 2013 to 2015. iOS alone accounted for nearly two-thirds of enrollment.
  • Ninety percent of surveyed companies reported enforcing password policies on mobile devices; this figure was much higher than for any other policy, including virtual private networks, Wi-Fi limitations and various content restrictions.
  • Whitelisting and blacklisting – i.e., allowing or banning – of popular applications are standard practices in EMM. Apps such as Facebook, Twitter and various mail clients topped the lists of most whitelisted and blacklisted apps in Citrix's report.

Usage of mobile devices is becoming not only ubiquitous, but also increasingly sophisticated, as these smaller screens take on more of the tasks – especially for basic work-related communications such as email, group chats and IP telephony – previously performed by desktops, laptops or dedicated hardware. These shifts raise the stakes for effective EMM solutions.

What should an enterprise mobility platform provide?

Broadly speaking, worthwhile EMM software should strike a balance between security and convenience in terms of managing devices and their respective applications. To pull this off, it must have the following core capabilities:

1. Synergy with bring-your-own-device initiatives

BYOD became one of the most prominent concepts in enterprise mobility in the late 2000s, following the adoption of BlackBerries and then early iPhones by many companies. The idea is that employees can have their personal devices integrated into company networks and apps.

There are clear tradeoffs to a BYOD policy: Employees get more comfort and convenience with their devices, but overall corporate cybersecurity may be weakened since IT could struggle to secure all endpoints and applications. In practice, many BYOD projects are too heavy-handed to be effective.

Fortunately, XenMobile can support BYOD without burdensome device enrollment. It can apply remote wipe and single sign-on policies, while centralizing app and device oversight in one console.

2. Support for mobile app development

Say your company has set up a mobility program: Now what? What apps will you allow your end users to access? Without a clear plan in place, you may end up mostly reacting to the consumer-grade programs – including social media and public clouds – that your employees flock to.

For this reason, it is advisable to have suitable infrastructure for developing your own business applications. XenMobile includes Citrix Secure Forms, which empowers even non-technical users to craft secure apps without entering a single line of computer code.

StorageZones and Citrix ShareFile also simplify compliance and storage, respectively. Overall, Secure Forms gives everyone from healthcare workers to police officers more tools for performing their jobs.

3. Easy app delivery to any device

The native applications at the core of enterprise IT are often neither intuitive to use nor easy to translate to mobile. End users expect fully featured programs for email, note-taking and calendar management, while admins want something that is secure enough to meet their standards.

With XenMobile, you get a full suite of apps safely containerized with Citrix MDX technology. These utilities include ShareConnect (for remote desktop access), Secure Forms (for workflow automation) and QuickEdit (for mobile editing), among others.

These programs make it relatively straightforward to work with documents on the go. Accordingly, organizations get more value from their BYOD initiatives and mobile apps.

4 Compatibility with Microsoft Office 365 apps

Microsoft Office 365 became the most widely used enterprise cloud service within only five years of its release, according to analysis from Skyhigh Networks. It enables secure access to the popular Office apps from just about any device.

Using the XenMobile store allows IT admins to publish public Office apps to users and revoke privileges as needed. XenMobile also permits "open in" functionality, i.e. the ability to open specific file types in corresponding Office apps, e.g. an email from Secure Mail can be sent to Office 365.

Master XenMobile with a CCP-M certification

Obtaining the Citrix Certified Professional – Mobility (CCP-M) certification is the best way to demonstrate your master of XenMobile to colleagues and employers. You can acquire the CCP-M distinction at one of our 10 locations nearest to you. We offer many Citrix technical courses, as well as training in technologies from Microsoft, Cisco and many other vendors.
