Top 3 Fastest Growing IT Certifications for 2017

Technology is a constantly moving target. For IT professionals, that means that remaining stagnant in terms of skills, experience and capabilities can be a severe detriment to the business and themselves. IT certifications are a great means to improve knowledge and support tech efforts. Let's take at the three fastest growing IT certifications for this year that professionals should take advantage of:

1. Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional

Organizations must be able to verify the security of their applications within the software development lifecycle. The CSSLP from ISC2 focuses on all professionals involved with the SDLC to teach what vulnerabilities, risks and compliance issues may arise, according to TechTarget contributors Margaret Rouse and Madelyn Bacon. Within this course, candidates will learn techniques concerning software security from concept to design to maintenance. However, to apply for this certification, you must have at least four years of paid full-time work experience in one of the eight fields in the CSSLP. The demand for this certification is on the rise and employers are willing to pay to hire candidates with this credential. CSSLP teaches you how to protect software throughout its lifecycle.

2. Certified Cyber Forensics Professional

Cybersecurity is becoming a major priority for a number of industries, especially those with sensitive information and compliance regulations. Security professionals with a CCFP from ISC2 are highly sought-after and valued by potential employers. This certification is for the IT forensics industry professionals including those in digital forensics, cybersecurity, e-discovery or cyber intelligence. According to Dice, participants will learn about forensic science, investigations, legal and ethical principles, digital forensics and emerging technologies. Candidates must have a four-year college degree and three years of full-time IT security experience in three of the domains covered by the certification.

3. Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT

"It's clear that security certifications will be a hot ticket item this year for IT professionals."

The CGEIT from ISACA can be a critical certification to have in 2017, especially if you plan to work for larger organizations or enterprises. The CGEIT shows that a professional has knowledge of enterprise IT governance and principles and is capable of bringing these skills into the business. Certified individuals are able to align IT with business strategies and goals, managing IT investments to maximize return on investment and minimize potential risk, Tom's IT Pro stated. To get into this exam, candidates must have five or more years supporting IT governance, with one year specifically devoted to managing the governance of an IT framework. The other four years must concentrate on two domains, including strategic management, risk optimization, benefits realization and resource optimization.

It's clear that security certifications will be a hot ticket item this year for IT professionals. Organizations are looking for individuals that can keep their systems and information protected while effectively maintaining governance standards. Although all three of these certifications have stringent guidelines to follow in order to even get in, employers will likely pay handsomely for the skills and assurances that these credentials provide. As you look to start this year off with new capabilities, look into these certifications to give your career the boost it needs.
