What's the true value of certification?

What is the real value of a certification?  If you ask any tech vendor, they will say that the value is immeasurable.  Every vendor who holds specific certifications do so to make sure that the employees out in the real world working with their products are subject matter experts.  This helps the companies who purchase different platforms increase a ROI, as their employees who are certified can handle the daily tasks associated with their workload.  So if a vendor creates a certification and a business purchases their technology, it would benefit the vendor and the business to have employees certified in that technology.

The IT industry is constantly changing, showcasing new and exciting ways for businesses to stay ahead of their competition.  With these changes, IT pros know that they need to obtain ongoing education to effectively do their job.  Certifications are a way to prove to the world that an individual has mastered a specific platform and can do their job.  When companies are allocating huge budgets to new technologies, they need to make sure that the employees dealing with these technologies are ready and able to do so.  Becoming certified does just that; it is like a trophy or diploma and showcases a skill-set needed to perform a duty.

Certifications can come from a number of different IT vendors.  Some in demand focus areas are:

·   Cisco

·   Linux

·   Microsoft

·   Project Management

·   Security

·   VMware

Bootcamps can be a great way to obtain certifications as well. They usually encompass the classes needed in a faster-paced environment, allowing an individual gain the needed training in a smaller time frame.  Bootcamps are intended for individuals who have experience in the field, as the courses are intense and sped up.  The benefits of a bootcamp are that there is a heavy price savings associated as well as less time away from the office.  Many employers like this route, as long as their employee is ready for the crash-course style learning.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Southern California offers a number of bootcamps throughout the year in many different technology areas.  We do so to help employers fit training into their already hectic business schedules and to offer them a significant way to save training dollars.

Below are a few upcoming bootcamps through our centers:

MCSA Bootcamp: Windows Server 2012 (April 6th-April 10th)

MCSE Bootcamp: Private Cloud (May 3rd-May 7th)

At New Horizons, we’re talking about technology everyday—and not just with a variety of clients, but with leading vendors—about industry trends and real-life challenges.
